Hey Everybody. It’s a best of holiday spectacular. We go back and give you some of the best gems of the raydio archives. What? Yeah, that’s what is happening. When I first saw the funnest live television bit ever done, please see link, I honestly forgot that we had the ringleader, Chris Gethard on the show. This show is based in the idea of yelling about punk rock bands at each other and Chris fit right in, then caps it off with a Murder Junkies story. If you want to check out the full episode, find it under Barriganisode in our feed. Wouldn’t be a year end show without some holiday music, and we hear Ben Ackleys submitted cover of “Last Christmas” Mike O’Brien has a great show called Advanced Placement Biology on the National Broadcasting Co affiliates. He came on to talk about it and his process in writing using music. We get into a very specific and detailed discussion while providing commentary about his use of Shellac’s’ “End of Radio” and we also commentated on it as well as providing insight. Hear the full episode under Mike O’Brien on our feed Mark Hoppus is in a band. It’s called Snake Plisken and the I Thought You We’re Deads. Jonahs in it too. Also maybe a mathematician? Something with numbers. Accountant. He was fun. A moth swung by. We close out with a track from Jenn Champion- Balderdash

Hey guys- This week we go back in time, back to a strange time known as the summer of 2018. Beach Goth is a festival thrown in the LA area for years by the band The Growlers and through Cash’s job with a beer company, the Jonah Radio boys got in for free. So Neil went out and bought us hats with the ticket money. Great hats. We wander, we talk, we argue. It was pretty great. We feature some GWAR stage banter, the song Break Down the Walls from Youth of Today, and Octves song Exact Change

We are going to be banking some episodes in the coming weeks for when Jonah goes on tour with MST3K, so if you got something you want us to hear, you want to yell at us or need that patented “Big Neil Energy” to push that creative project across the finish line, hit us up at names o’ the show at gmail dot com. May The Podcast Come Up and Meet You, everyone! We break our streak of having musicians on to discuss comedy by having a comic on to talk music. It’s Kurt Braunohler! And its a great one!
We start with Krishna temples, Edinburgh, and Kurts old video team that took him to the festival. But then Kurt brings us one of the most fun games we’ve played on the podcast. Ladies and gentlemen meet “Shame Face Shuffle”
Anybody can play. Pull out your Zune-type music player, put that batboy on Library>Shuffle and hit Next. Most embarrassing entry wins the round. Comedy album, first instance, round loss. Second comedy album, re-roll. Possible Shoot The moon situation with overall “coolest in every round” where ultimate winner can be named ultimate loser. Does that apply to Jonah in this game? Listen to find out…
Also a prize pack that Neil and Cash put together from things found inter trucks. Look for that prize package to cross over to Doug Loves Movies soon!

We talk cool venues and what separates the wheat from the chaff, touring/venue/hospitality wise. And Allison and Mike break down how they have a bit of jealousy about how the other goes about working. It really turns out well, by the end.

Aloha Podcast! Our guest this week is Rob Schrab, director, writer, co-creator of Channel 101 and author/artist/creator of Scud the Disposable Assassin as well as director of the new season of MST3K
It starts off great, then Neil gets over his skis with dropping his first contribution to the musical side with a song he got from Spencer on the Harmontown podcast. But then we dive into Robs origins in comedy and how MST3K ties into it. We talk Neils fascination with the stories of Motley Crue but not their music. Robs music video for Death Cab for Cutie song Crooked Teeth
We talk the best parts of what Channel 101 has brought to our lives and how the concept of getting paid in fun beats getting paid almost nothing (Shots fired sound at JGL and HitRECord).
We also hearken back to Robs early days and talk his Dead Ale Wives D&D sketch that grew in the early days of the internet and his love for the VHS trading community
Then we take a deep dive into Scud, its origins as a comic, the way it helped break Robs career and eventually let to him abandoning the project pre finale, only to return to it years later to give the fans, and himself, the closure it and he needed. He announces a kickstarter to get Scud the color he’s always deserved.

We start with an excerpt from Lance Bangs. We play a song from early in his career Bliss “Gaining Weight” and then Lance takes us through the crazy story of his tour with Mercury Rev on Lollapalooza ’93.
Rozwell Kid with Roger And Bob (Rode Out That Day) from Willow Creek
Next up is Bobcat Goldthwait from the Flying the Episode. He talks his time touring with “The Nirvanas”, his never launched two handed act with David Bowie, and jettisoning his old on stage character.
Next up we’re back to Lance Bangs where casually mentions surviving a plane crash and we make him go into it. Both Lance stories and even more with him are available on the Episode Before The Next One from our feed.

And finally, when we were putting this best of together, there was only one unanimous call from all of us. “The one where Ruby farted”. We play Sleeping Bag & Rozwell Kid- Miguel This episode features old friends Clint Trucks, Dave Kloc, Deanna Rooney, and Tony Thaxton. Second Draft
So it all went wrong this time. Our guest, Rob Schrab put in the wrong address to his GPS and ended up 40 miles away from the studio. We were backed up against our deadline date so we needed to record one to go up today. So we started recording without him, actually called him and did sort of an interview while he sat in traffic. Then Jonah hung up on him and Rob called back and threatened to cut all of Jonahs close ups when he directs MST3K. It was really funny and worked out well and with a great game in the second act of the show we were back on top of the world with forty minutes of a great podcast we had salvaged from the ashes.
Then the recorder failed.
So we made another one and thats what you’re getting. Rob wouldn’t pick jp when we called back. Neil cheated in the game by using all Jonahs successful answers from the first, now lost, round. We talked band feuds. It was a real experience.

Sorry so overmodulated. We tended to shout cause we were so excited! It didn’t sound any better live!
Warning, it turns out when you have an antagonistic podcast, you get a antagonistic audience.
John “Jughead” Pierson from SCREECHING WEASEL and EVEN IN BLACKOUTS got attacked by a wild boar. He gets into the yin/yang of Screeching Weasel, and what then yin gets up to when the yang isn’t around, his experiences with Green Day and Blink 182, and his theater gigs. A guy kept bringing Jonah PBRs. All Time Champion Guest Dave Lyons came thru and flew in to sing “Veronica Hates Me” with Jughead. Jughead also brought games and gift and we got into that. A few folks attempted “Slogans” with Jughead and Jonah finished it up with his own vocalizing on “Peter Brady”.

This week on the ol' Raydio podcast we talk to the creators of Netflix's Everything Sucks, Ben York-Jones & Michael Mohan. Ben's latest movie "NEWNESS" is also on Netflix. Also, one of Jonah's favorite flicks "Save The Date" (directed by Michael) is discussed. But it's not all movies and tv! We stroll down 90's music memory lane and talk about what Prarie Home Companion would be if David Lynch hosted it. Also, there's an announcement right near the end. Which Jonah wasn't sure if he was allowed to say, but was drunk. SONGS

Looks like we played Neil’s old band and Jonah’s old band and a guy who puts out music on the internet (under his own name) as Jonah Ray but isn’t Jonah. Yeah, it’s coming back. Good times.

Hey everybody! Long and great episode this week with Matt Sharp original bassist for Weezer and leader of the Rentals! We've been wanting to get Matt on for a long time and it was well worth the wait. Dive in and listen. Only other thing you should know is that Mystery was the leader of a group of pick up artists and had his own show on MTV. Songs |
